The Cold Region Critical Zone in Transition: Responses to Climate Warming and Land Use Change
نویسندگان
چکیده
Global climate warming disproportionately affects high-latitude and mountainous terrestrial ecosystems. Warming is accompanied by permafrost thaw, shorter winters, earlier snowmelt, more intense soil freeze-thaw cycles, drier summers, longer fire seasons. These environmental changes in turn impact surface water groundwater flow regimes, quality, greenhouse gas emissions, stability, vegetation cover, (micro)biological communities. also facilitates agricultural expansion, urban growth, natural resource development, adding growing anthropogenic pressures to cold regions’ landscapes, health, biodiversity. Further advances the predictive understanding of how critical zone processes, functions, ecosystem services will continue respond land use require multiscale monitoring technologies coupled with integrated observational modeling tools. We highlight some major challenges, knowledge gaps, opportunities region research, an emphasis on subsurface processes responses both

Land-use and carbon cycle responses to moderate climate change: implications for land-based mitigation?
Climate change has impacts on agricultural yields, which could alter cropland requirements and hence deforestation rates. Thus, land-use responses to climate change might influence terrestrial carbon stocks. Moreover, climate change could alter the carbon storage capacity of the terrestrial biosphere and hence the land-based mitigation potential. We use a global spatially explicit economic land...

Predicting the impact of land cover and climate change on hydrologic responses using modeling tools are essential in understanding the movement and pattern of hydrologic processes within the watershed. The paper provided potential implications of land conversions and climate change scenarios on the hydrologic processes of Muleta watershed using soil and water assessment tool model. Model inputs...
متن کاملa synchronic and diachronic approach to the change route of address terms in the two recent centuries of persian language
terms of address as an important linguistics items provide valuable information about the interlocutors, their relationship and their circumstances. this study was done to investigate the change route of persian address terms in the two recent centuries including three historical periods of qajar, pahlavi and after the islamic revolution. data were extracted from a corpus consisting 24 novels w...

Watershed runoff is closely related to land use but this influence is difficult to quantify. This study focused on the Chaudière River watershed (Québec, Canada) and had two objectives: (i) to quantify the influence of historical agricultural land use evolution on watershed runoff; and (ii) to assess the effect of future land use evolution scenarios under climate change conditions (CC). To achi...
متن کاملModelling Land use, Land-Use Change, and Forestry in Climate Change: A Review of major Approaches
The rapid development of climate policies and the need to understand the dynamics of climate change have highlighted and shaped the role of land use, land-use change and forestry dynamics (LULUCF), making it an issue of global importance. As a consequence, LULUCF has become a central topic in economic theory and in environmental sciences. The attention is focused on creating and expanding compr...
